Dante: Commedia Divina

In the following three works, the artist has transposed

Dante's masterpiece to the present day.

The Divine Comedy consists of the three parts

Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso.

Inferno

The nine circles of hell contain the catastrophes that we as humanity have to deal with today and tomorrow: fires, droughts, storms, floods, desertification, ice melt, invasive species, viruses and species extinction.

The work comprises a total of 2200 individual images (graphically manipulated photographs), each measuring 10 x 10 cm, resulting in a total size of 6 x 6 meters.

Purgatorio

Purgatory comprises seven circles in which the current misdeeds of mankind are shown: Slash-and-burn, ocean plastic, oil leaks, air pollution, sewage, waste and monocultures.

The work comprises around 2000 pictures and has a total size of around 4.8 x 4.8 meters.

Paradiso

In paradise there are again nine circles in which the blissful reign, everything we love and would like to find in our lives: Clean air, flowers, a vacation beach, a relaxing forest, healthy food, lots of fish in the sea, offspring everywhere, clear water and butterflies above the flowers.

The celestial circles together consist of 2200 individual images, giving the work a total size of 5 x 5 meters.

The artist is currently (April 2025) working on a version of hell in which the 8 inner circles rotate clockwise around the center of hell. The ninth circle, limbo, does not move, nor does the inscription (translated: Abandon all hope, ye who enter here).
